Amanda Jones

6th Grade Homeroom

Mrs. Jones graduated from Concordia University Irvine in 2011 with a BA in Liberal Studies. She started her teaching career in Anaheim City School District, where she taught 6th grade for 3 years. This will be her first year teaching at Grace School and she is extremely excited to be a part of the Christian community. Along with teaching the sciences, Mrs. Jones will be teaching a photography class as an elective. She will also be coaching the Middle School volleyball team this year. Mrs. Jones played volleyball from Jr. High through High School as well as a club team for a few seasons. Mrs. Jones has been married to Mr. Jones for five years! They have a one-year-old, Charlotte, who never seems to run out of energy and is a little bit sassy. Family is extremely important for Mrs. Jones! Her siblings live in Idaho (sisters) and Florida (brother). Mrs. Jones has 3 nephews and 1 niece that she tries to FaceTime with as much as possible. Mrs. Jones enjoys any kind of game to play (cards, sports, board) as well as baking yummy treats!

Ashly Steele

6th Grade Homeroom

Mrs. Steele graduated from Cal State Fullerton with her B.A. in English, M.S. in Education, and her multiple-subject teaching credential. During the 2016-2017 school year, she was able to finalize her single-subject English credential, as well. She has taught all-subjects in K-6 self-contained classrooms, as well as 6th-12th grade English in Christian school. Mrs. Steele is married to a gentleman who is (almost) as geeky as she is. They enjoy playing games, critiquing movies, and going on road trips together. Mrs. Steele also attends Grace Lutheran Church, where she loves to connect with Jesus and her spiritual family.

Melissa Rodrigues

7th Grade Homeroom

Mrs. Rodrigues graduated from California State University Long Beach in 2008 with a BA in Liberal Studies. From 2008-2016, Mrs. Rodrigues was the 7th grade teacher at a Lutheran school in the South Bay. During her time there, she taught Algebra, Geometry, 6th through 8th grade History, 6th through 8th grade Science, 7th grade Language Arts & Religion, Physical Education/Health, and Art. Mrs. Rodrigues began teaching 7th grade at Grace Lutheran in 2016 and feels blessed to be a part of the Grace family. Mrs. Rodrigues and her husband have two sons and they enjoy spending time together as a family.

Darin Zylstra

8th Grade Homeroom

Mr. Zylstra graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 2007 with a BA in Liberal Studies and a concentration in U.S. History. He also earned his Multiple Subject Credential in June 2007 and started his teaching career in LAUSD teaching 5th grade from 2007-2009. He has been teaching here at Grace Lutheran since the fall of 2009. Mr. Zylstra teaches 7th and 8th grade History, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Grace T.V. as an elective. Mr. Zylstra is married and has two children. He attends First Christian Reformed Church of Artesia and lives in Westminster. He enjoys basketball, traveling, and working on his new house. He is very excited to be teaching here at Grace and is looking forward to the new school year!

Jon Alexanian

Middle School Bible Studies

Jon is a Huntington Beach native who enjoys watching random TV shows and eating good food with his wife Melissa. Jon is a graduate of Biola University (BA in Biblical and Theological Studies, 2008) and Talbot School of Theology (M. Div, 2015). Jon grew up going to Grace Lutheran School (through 5th grade) and even worked in the Rec. Club throughout high school and college. Having served in student ministry for over 10 years Jon has a great passion to help students and their families grow in their understanding of who God is, what he has done for them, and to help them embrace the life God created and saved them for. Jon is also an avid tea drinker who loves the smell of coffee and is always down to hang out and talk at a coffee shop, so hit him up sometime!
